1. Minho horse


    Minho Horse or Garrano is a breed of wild horse very ancient, native from the north of Portugal, used for many centuries as a beast of burden and work. Currently inhabits the mountains of Gerês, having once inhabited the Minho and Trás-os-Montes. It is a protected species due to the high risk of extinction that has been subject until recently.

    The wild horse is not only in the wild but also in possession of some private breeders.  Due to its small size is often considered a pony, its colour is Sorrel, as an emblematic animal of Gerês is also one of the symbols of Casinhas do Gerês.
